What commercials are you watching on Hardball & Chris Matthews?
Why would I torture myself to find out the commercials for Hardball? First, people say they will write advertisers, but who are they? My goal was information to readers. Second, I wanted to get an idea what was involved in profiling the advertisers, if the project were expanded in the future.
Here is the way I collected the data: I recorded Hardball and only watched the commercials at the 5:00 show in my time zone for Nov. 19-21– 3 days worth. Note that Hardball is also shown at 3:00 and 10:00 …

New York Times Says Romer Lacks Colleagues’ “Intellectual Firepower”
Congratulations to Dr. Christina Romer who was today named chair of President Elect Obama’s Council of Economic Advisers (CEA). The CEA, comprised of three official advisers and a staff of about 20 economists and academics, was created in 1949 to provide the office of the President with objective advice about the economy. Notable former chairs include Alan Greenspan, Ben Bernanke, Gregory Mankiw, as well as two winners of the Nobel Prize in Economics, James Tobin and Jacob Stiglitz.

National Organization of W…hat?
Has NOW completely lost its way as an organization? Or is there a leader looking for her next gig?
Today, NOW President Kim Gandy was quoted in the New York Times on Larry Summers:
Yet Kim Gandy, president of the National Organization for Women, said her group’s research actually produced material that recommended him. “One good thing about Larry Summers,” she said, “is that he has written and spoken fairly extensively on the issue of women’s wage inequality and the impact that has on the country.”
Hold it. This cannot be …

The New Agenda Contributors in Newsday
In her article, “Clinton fans, foes weigh in on secretary of state post”, Elizabeth Moore noted The New Agenda contributor Barbara Schlachet for her “Who’s Afraid of Hillary Clinton” piece, and blog regular goesh, who commented on that article:
“At the other end of the spectrum are posts on the Web site of the New Agenda, an organization set up by Clinton backers who believe her primary campaign was undermined by rampant sexism in the media and her own party.

Sleeping Majority No More
Many of our Members have written to us or commented on our blog about Hillary becoming Secretary of State.
Many of our Members are concerned that with the selection of Hillary for SOS, President-elect Obama would then use this as an excuse to not include other qualified women in his administration.
The New Agenda wrote an opt-ed on this topic in The Daily Beast. To summarize our thoughts on this matter:
No, certainly not is our resounding reply. We will not be appeased with the appointment of one stand-out woman in a high profile …

Score a Small Victory for Our Team
The New Agenda has scored a small victory. Through our collective actions, we were able to speak out against the possible appointment of Larry Summers for Treasury Secretary.
Today President-elect Obama has picked Timothy Geithner to be his Treasury Secretary.
Although we applaud Obama for not picking Summers, there were numerous qualified women for this post that were put forth. We are hoping that the early appointments of Barack Obama (all male) are not a harbinger for things to come.

Do Girls “Dumb Themselves Down”???
I spent this morning at a Native American Celebration for my son’s third grade class. As part of the celebration, each student writes a story about that he or she reads to the class. Each year, the students have a celebration around various themes in which they are called on to write and read to an audience.
And each year, the comments from parents are the same. We notice that most of the girls read with ease and confidence. We notice that most of the boys mumble through their presentation (or are too shy …

Let us Not Blame Hillary
This notion I’m hearing that Hillary should have taken on her Party and perhaps lead an independent movement—please, get a grip. It’s just not who she is. We need to see and respect that. We aren’t serving our long-term interests when we do what women too often do with women leaders: project an unrealistic image, feel personally betrayed when she doesn’t meet our standard—a standard we don’t impose on men—and tear her down.
I don’t think Hillary has ever seen herself as a movement leader. Not an MLK but more like …
