Drop by Ophelia's and we'll chat

Drop by Ophelia

This week, we’ve had some great input from members and readers of the blog on goals and targets for The New Agenda in the coming months, and what we expect Obama’s cabinet to look like. We’d like to talk with you some more about your ideas and concerns on Monday night, on “Chewing the Fat with Ophelia”, The New Agenda’s weekly show on Blog Talk Radio.

In times of economic downturn, women are always disproportionately impacted. On Monday’s show we’ll also talk about women’s issues that come to the forefront as a result of the recession.

Last week at Ophelia’s, we chewed the fat about the misogyny we’d seen during the election, and about the change that we see as necessary if the Feminist movement is to survive. Violet gave a quick tutorial on the Three Feminist Waves, and we had some good laughs.

Please join us on Monday, November 11th, from 10-11 p.m. EST to talk about the issues that need our attention.

This is a new kind of radio: internet podcasting. The “radio” is your computer – all you have to do is go to the website when the show is scheduled to start, and the show will play right there on your computer screen. (You do have to have your computer speakers turned on!) There’s also a telephone number for you to call in and talk to the host or ask a question, just like with traditional radio shows: (347) 324-5942. Plus, there’s a chat room feature too, so you can “chat” with other listeners while you’re listening to the show. And if you miss the live broadcast, a recording of the program is automatically stored right there on the page so you can listen to it later.

That’s Monday at 10pm EST. Join us!

I took the title literally – some advocacy for self defense training/ firearms training so those walks to the car in the parking lot are not so scary at times nor the bump in the night when living alone but then read and the title alludes to something else equally good and meaningful. Biting back, most appropriate.

A little off-topic here: I see an online NYT article on the value of the
Cosby Show toward setting the template to elect Obama. Tell me, what have black and/or AA women achieved here?

I found Obama’s reference to Nancy Reagan demeaning and sexist. He was ridiculing her, which seems to be his natural stance towards women.

Women are 52% of the population. We are the majority. We need to stop asking men’s permission to succeed in business and politics and just step right over them. The level of misogyny in the Democratic left is appalling. They have no idea how ugly and sexist they are. I agree Obama’s natural stance towards women is to demean them.
