Where Is McCain’s Outrage?
During the final debate between John McCain and Barack Obama at Long Island’s Hofstra University moderator Bob Schieffer asked about the abased tone of the campaign, and the GOP contender made this cryptic, inside baseball reference: “In fact, some T-shirts that are very… unacceptable.”
What T-shirts? McCain never says. And unless you watch FOX News or regularly read political Web sites, you would not know what the heck he’s taking about.
Unacceptable? The Stiletto is perplexed and dismayed that McCain has never defended the honor of his running mate, who has been …

I Stand Corrected: Apparently it’s NOT Misogyny if the Victim is Republican
Marilyn Fitterman, a former head of NOW NY, responded to a recent post on Kitty Genovese and Sarah Palin. In her widely circulated email, Fitterman gives the following observations of Gov. Palin:
“She is being treated by the media in the way all women have come to expect from time immemorial. More to the point, Sarah Palin is collaborating with the patriarchy.”
In other words, Marilyn believes that women should NOT speak out and defend Gov. Palin. After all, Gov. Palin doesn’t believe in the same policies as Marilyn (although, Marilyn, you …

Women Protest Exclusion at the Vatican
Like a social club with “Whites Only” posted over the entryway, the Catholic Church’s continued refusal to ordain women to the priesthood seems both archaic and atonishingly bigoted.
The New York Times reports that Catholic women marched on the Vatican on Wednesday, during a synod of 253 bishops from around the world, in order to protest women’s exclusion from the priesthood, but the Vatican doesn’t yet show any inclination to back down from centuries of gender-descrimination that holds the priesthood to be the sole province of men.
In May, the Vatican insisted …

Kitty Genovese and Sarah Palin: The “Bystander Effect” and Women of the Democratic Party
Witnessing the horrific treatment of Senator Clinton during the 2008 Presidential Primary, many women of this country joined forces and said: “Never again!”
The sexist treatment of Senator Clinton has been credited by some for the reawakening of feminism in our country. Amanda Fortini wrote an article for the New York Magazine in April 2008 titled: “The Feminist Reawakening: Hillary Clinton and the Fourth Wave”; Lisa Wangsness wrote an article for The Boston Globe in August 2008 titled: “Clinton’s Journey Awakens a New Women’s Movement”; and …

We Need A New “Ism”
Washington Post columnist Richard Cohen, thinks the MSM is being too kind to Gov. Sarah Palin and her performance in the veep debate with Sen. Joe Biden: “[M]uch of the media saw a credible performance. … In effect, columnists, bloggers, talk-show hosts and digital lamplighters everywhere have adopted the ethic of the political consultant: what works, works. It did not matter what Palin said. It only mattered how she said it …”
Contrary to Cohen’s assertions, a new poll by the Pew Research Center’s Project for Excellence in Journalism finds that Americans …

“Sarah Palin is a Cunt” (just like you and me)
The following image appeared on a supporter’s page at Obama’s campaign site. It has since been replaced with something innocuous, but the Google cache remains.
Ben Smith writes:
One of their [the t-shirts'] creators, emailing under the name Rhiannon Volpe, objected to my suggestion that she was a Democrat:
“I personally am a registered Libertarian, supporting Obama this year. Palin is the last woman I want to hold a political office right now. Her lack of common sense, cruel treatment to animals, and just plain ignorance to what we (Americans, and even women) …

CALL IT OUT
Are you sick and tired of women bashing other women?
C’mon, ladies:
Issues are fair game. Sexist or other degrading attacks are not!
The New Agenda plans to speak out against these personal attacks.
We’re starting a new initiative…
CALL IT OUT
BOO: When we observe women making personal attacks on another woman, we will call her out and provide her email address for all of us to contact her and ask her to stop!
YEAH: When we see a woman agree or disagree based (appropriately) on issues, we will also speak out to commend her.
Our …
