My mother’s courage and hard work has always been and continues to be one of the two most inspiring things in my life. I come from a poor, hard working Scots Irish family, poor financially but rich in character and love. My mother was the first person from our family to go to college in 1973. That same year I was conceived out of wedlock. She was only 18. My family had no money and she was face with the challenge of raising a child on her own, but instead of having an abortion she choose to fight for me and fight for our future. She became a nurse and has worked hard in corporate America, raising a family and providing for that family. She is a conservative and I am a conservative and sometimes I think because of her belief in the sanctity of life she is dismissed as not a feminist or an advocate for the equal rights of women. But let me tell you she has faced sexism, stood up to it with the quiet diginity that millions of women do everyday and has as much claim as any woman to stand up and be accepted as a true supporter of womens rights. I have been horrified of the media’s and Democratic parties treatment of women, whether its Hillary, Palin or the unbelievable comments and cold blooded approach to their children. I especially am struck by Palin’s pregnant daughter and as I watch her go through this cannot help but think of my mother and what she faced at that very same age. But I’m sure we all see the faces of our mothers, wives, and daughters in these three people and how can we stand by as they are treated this way, how can we not say something today.
So I’m not sitting back. I’m not going to keep quiet. I would like to join your group to support the rights of my mother, my wife and the daughters of the world.
Thanks for your attention to this issue.
